SINGLE ACTION ARMY IN DESIRABLE .45 COLT WITH 7 1/2" BARREL, WITH COLT FACTORY LETTER, #186XXX, SHIPPED 1899
Description: SINGLE ACTION ARMY IN DESIRABLE .45 COLT WITH 7 1/2" BARREL, WITH COLT FACTORY LETTER, #186XXX, SHIPPED 1899. This is a fine honest example that would be in the "attic condition" category that is so hard to find these days. The Colt factory letter verifies the caliber/barrel length and blue finish and states it was shipped to W. B. Belknap & Co., Louisville, KY on May 27, 1899 in a shipment of 4 guns. All markings are sharp and all screws are basically excellent. Overall metal has a naturally aged and uncleaned dark patina. There is some aged blue in the more protected areas. The front sight has not been filed or altered, the grips show commensurate wear with more wear and smoothing of the checkering to the right grip panel which is typical of holstered revolvers worn on the right side where the outside panel will rub more than the protected left panel. Further, the grips fit perfectly and are not chipped or cracked. There is some very minor surface evidence of very old rust that was wiped with an oil cloth, but not scoured and blends perfectly- really minor and hardly worth mentioning. Fine mechanically with four clicks to the hammer and fine bore that is a little dark but with good rifling all the way through. Overall a fine 122 year old SAA with attractive frontier appearance in hard to find big .45 caliber with long barrel.
