About Us: I mainly collect 1900 to 1940 Colt paper and double-action revolvers. I have a Colt educational at coltfirearmscollector. Currently, I am selling some of the later items from my personal collection. I am a private collector and reside in Ft. Myers, Florida. I AM NOT a dealer.
1964 Colt Single Action Army second generation revolver, .357 Magnum, 5 1/2 in. barrel
Description: 1964 Colt Single Action Army Gen. 2 Revolver .357 Magnum with 5 ½ in. barrel This revolver, box, and paperwork come from my personal Colt collection. I am not a dealer. Price is: $1,830 Serial number 36397SA This Colt Second Generation blued and casehardened finish .357 Magnum with 5 1/2 in. barrel was made in late 1964 according to the Colt archives online. According to Wilkerson's book 'Colt Single Action Revolver Handbook 1955 -1975' number 36397SA shown here would have been shipped in a 12 1/2 in. 'Black' box. The outside of the box 'COLT' in gold letters on the top. See my photos of this same box. The correct paperwork pamphlet is included, Form 5A-100, see photo. Beginning in late 1964, revolvers with a serial number higher than 38000SA were shipped in the 'Stage Coach' box. This SAA 357 revolver is earlier than 38000, so it came in the black box shown here with the red '357 Magnum' label. That label is shown in the photos. Wilkerson discusses the boxes for the Gen 2 revolvers and boxes at length. An information panel with black letters was placed on the end of the lower box with "COLT'S SINGLE- ACTION ARMY REVOLVER' to the left and the caliber, barrel length, and serial number top to bottom on the right. End labels of .357 magnum revolver box label were red with black lettering as shown in my photos. One end panel of the box is missing, see photo. The revolver, box, and paperwork were purchased with the revolver from an estate years ago. There is no handwritten serial number anywhere on the box. Why it's rare: There were only 2,192 revolvers shipped from Colt in this configuration and serial number range, with black rubber grips, 5 1/2 barrels, and blue and case-hardened finish. (Wilkerson, page 124). If in doubt, look at the stats in the Wilkerson book. The mechanics of this heavy-duty revolver are just like new. There is some bluing loss on the cylinder and edges due to holster wear and you can judge the importance of that by the photos. There was a fancy holster with the revolver when it was obtained and obviously, it fit that holster well judging by the location of wear spots. The bore and cylinders are bright and clean. Everything is tight with the locking and cylinder positioning. The whole gun is just rock solid. As mentioned before, the case coloring on this revolver is very strong and unblemished. There is no rust and only minor scratches, but no abuse, please examine the photos. It had been well cared for by its previous owner. I purchased the revolver, box, and paper from an estate sale. Financials: Please ask questions before you buy. Payment is due at acceptance of the sale. I will accept a certified bank check for quick shipping or a personal check, but your check has to clear my local account before I ship. Shipping cost for the buyer is to be determined, estimated to be $55-85 for 3-day ground via FedEx. The seller, me, pays full insurance and his FFL transfer fee ($50) to his FFL. The buyer pays transfer fees to his FFL. There is a three-day inspection and the buyer pays all costs and insurance to return the revolver in the same condition and using my same packing level. I do not sell to any resident who is in a state where this revolver is illegal. Nor do I ship out of the continental U.S. If you have questions, email me or call before 9 PM EST. 239-689-3178 SOLD Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army Serial Number: 36397SA Barrel Length: 5 3/4 inches Condition: Excellent minus Metal Condition: Excellent minus Bore Condition: Excellent Case: Original Colt box |
