Colt ~ Pair of Consecutive Serial Numbered Single Action Army ~ .45 Colt
Description:
Consecutively serial numbered pair of special-order Colt Single Action Army revolvers, both chambered in .45 Colt. Official factory shipped consecutively serialized sets of second-generation Colt Single Action Army revolvers are rarely encountered and are highly prized by modern collectors. Most consecutive sets consisted of two revolvers of the same calibers, barrel length and finish. A small number of consecutive sets contained revolvers of different calibers, barrel lengths or finishes. This set is among the rarest of the second-generation Single Action Army consecutive sets as it is the only known Buntline paired with a 4-3/4 inch nickel-finished Single Action Army. This set was manufactured in 1970 and each revolver has their matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial serial number on the front cylinder face. The included factory letter for the pair confirms they were ordered as a consecutively serial numbered set and shipped to Melningers Sporting Goods in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, on 16 July 1970. Previously in the Don Wilkerson collection and included in the set is a copy of Wilkerson's book Colt Single-Action Revolver Handbook 1955-1975. Also included is the Colt factory Stagecoach box for the 4-3/4 inch barreled revolver. .45 Colt
