Description:
#4974 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45, 14XXX range (late-1874 mfg)), VG++ to Fine bore, about a 8 on a scale of 10 with just a very thin speckling of lead and rust build up and having a tight smooth action with all the clicks on the hammer. The metal is an overall a dark blue-brown and is totally butter smooth with no pitting at all. It has VG markings (except the correct italic barrel address is a bit faint), correct Bulls-eye ejector head, and all matching numbers with the exception of the one-piece walnut grips, which look a little TOO good to be original and are most likely very good and well fitting replacements. Overall, this very early civilian sold Colt is MUCH above the condition of most Single Actions that are usually found priced in this same price range ….but suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact!!)…that since many, if not most Single Actions have been restored, enhanced, and/or “juiced-up” to some degree, one should always take the possibility of some degree of restoration into consideration. This gun has been valued and priced with that possibility in mind. However, it is a scarce early second year production Colt and a very good example of a very handsome 1870s frontier revolver!
