#5007 Colt
S/A, 5-1/2”x45COLT, matched pair with a super scarce double skirted holster rig
Description: #5007 Colt S/A, 5-1/2”x45COLT, matched pair with a super scarce double skirted holster rig. The two Colts are 9-years apart, one being manufactured in 1883 and the other in 1892, and both being expertly refurbished and refinished. These were likely professionally restored some time ago since the case colors have now faded to thin smokey swirls, however the crystal blue is still at least 90-95% density and 98% coverage. The Eagle grips look too good to be the original grips and probably refitted when the guns were restored. The VERY highly tooled double holster rig definitely looks to be at least 100-years old (although that is MHO, of course) and is dry and somewhat fragile. It needs a good cleaning, softening, and a re-enforcement patch on the center inside behind the cartridge loops. The sizing strap also needs replacing or re-enforcing. And as previously noted, the entire rig needs soaking in a good leather lube, as it is quite dry and stiff. Now, I might add this little snippet of “hype”; that being that double holster rigs are very scarce and this is only the second one that I have ever owned in 55+ years of collecting, and aside of books, I have seen less that a dozen. Consequently, I’ll be happy to split the guns (for $3195 each) and keep the rig myself, or I’ll sell the whole set for $6875. Betcha the fellow who had the revolvers rebuilt spent at least $2500 each for the labor and had to supply two pretty decent guns to start with! Now the rig should be restored to the same excellent condition and it will be one helluva set!! SOLD Antique: Yes |
