COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45, 4 3/4" Barrel, 2nd Generation, Blue & Color Case, New in Stage Coach Box with Colt Letter
Description:
SUPERB COLT 45 IN NEW CONDITION, ALL ORIGINAL,UNFIRED WITH NO DRAG LINE OR HANDLING MARKS. COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45, 4 3/4" Barrel, Blue & Color Case, Model P-1840 in Stage Coach Box with Owner's Manual and Colt Letter of Authentication. This 54-year-old 2nd Generation Colt 45 was shipped to Roos Atkins in San Francisco in 1969, and still looks like the day it left Hartford. Second Generation Colt SAAs are considered the finest because they were manufactured by combining original first generation design & tooling with modern steel. A very nicely fitted example with flush seams joining the frame to the backstrap and trigger guard. All roll-marks & lettering are crisp with even depth. 2nd Gen Colts feature the attractive satin blue finish, verses the high buff blue finish applied to modern 3rd Gen Colts. The frame has particularly vivid case color with no sign of fading. It features the round top hammer*, 1st Gen style bevels on the lower sides of the trigger guard base**, and removable full length cylinder bushing. The majority of 2nd Gen Colt SAAs had 5 1/2" barrels — 4 3/4" barrels tend to be scarce. The eagle grips originally introduced in 1882, were reintroduced in late 1969 when this gun was shipped. The stage coach box is in nice condition with no open corners (two corners on the lid show some separation & wear, but they are reinforced and tight). Box is complete with all interior partitions, the poly bag and protective paper wrap. Gun will be shipped in its stage coach box, but will be protected with new cushion wrap and hammer will be strapped. Will ship to U.S. FFL dealer only — must be legal at your location. Shipping will be $250 via UPS Next Day Air Saver with full insurance. Shipping charge will be waived if your FFL dealer will provide a FedEx shipping label with full value insurance (must be FedEx approved firearm shipping service). FedEx may be cheaper than UPS for equivalent service. Your questions promptly answered. I will provide additional photos if requested. Will respond to all offers. Thank you for checking it out...
All photos depict the actual Colt for sale.
*According to Don Wilkerson, the round top hammer (used 1959 - 1972) had a slightly lower profile to facilitate thumb cocking for quick draw. The rounded top (resting below rear sight) can be seen in the open loading gate photo.
** Bevels on the trigger guard base disappeared at the end of 2nd Gen SAAs. Bevels are visible in photos 1, 4, 5, & 9.
