*Sale Pending* - HISTORIC COLT SA USED BY THE DALTON GANG AT THE INFAMOUS COFFEYVILLE RAID
Description:
In the world of antique and collectible firearms, outlaw guns rank above all other in desirability and value. But in order to achieve this level, a gun must be documented properly. We routinely hear stories of a gun that supposedly belonged to some famous outlaw. Usually these stories get passed down through time and embellished. In the end, most stories are only wishful thinking. This Colt represents a rare exception. It is one of the most thoroughly documented and verified outlaw guns in existence! In addition, this gun has outstanding eye appeal. Fine engraving by Cuno Helfrecht, blue && case hardened finish Mother of Pearl grips, 45 caliber, 5-1/2 inch barrel. This is one of 10 identical revolver that the Dalton Gang had made especially for their raid on Coffeyville Kansas. Each of the five members carried a pair of these fancy new Colts when they tried to rob two banks at the same time. It did not end well for them. Four of the members were shot to death and the last one was captured. One of the matching guns from this set is on display at the Gene Autry Museum. Another of them sold for $322,000 a few years ago. This gun was refinished nicely and retains most all of the blue as well as the case colors on the hammer and frame. Minor pitting on the cylinder does not distract from the beauty of this gun. Small chip on one of the grips but they fit nicely otherwise. All matching numbers, excellent markings and mechanics. A letter by noted expert R L Wilson concludes that this gun is "well worthy of inclusion in the most distinguished of private or public museum collections."
