Here we present an Antique Colt Model 1877 “Thunderer” Revolver manufactured in 1887 in Hartford, Connecticut. This was a medium sized revolver and was Colt’s first double action revolver design.

Neither "Lightning" nor "Thunderer" were Colt designations and were not used by the factory in any reference materials. Both terms were coined by Benjamin Kittredge, one of Colt's major distributors. Kittredge was responsible for the term "Peacemaker" for the Colt Single Action Army. The 1877 "Thunderer" in .41 caliber was the preferred weapon of Billy the Kid and was his weapon of choice when he was killed by Pat Garrett in 1881.

The overall condition is very good. The finish is an older reblue. The action is in good working order in both double and single action. The mainspring is slightly anemic. The lockup is good. The rampant colt trademark hard rubber grips are in nice shape. The numbers match.
