Replica Arms - Uberti 1848 Cased 2nd Model Commemorative Dragoon .44 Caliber Percussion Black Powder Revolver
Description: You are looking at a cased 1848 Second Model Colt Dragoon manufactured for Replica Arms by Uberti. The Colt Dragoon was designed to address certain flaws that existed in the early revolver developed by Colt with the input of Texas Ranger Same Walker, specifically its heavy weight which limited its use to calvary, the tendency for people to overload the cylinder causing the revolver to explode as well as the frequent dropping o the loading lever into the cylinder blocking its ability to turn. Introduced after the Mexican–American War, it became popular among civilians during the 1850s and 1860s, and was also used during the American Civil War. This is a replica of the Second Model, which had rectangular cylinder notches but retained the squareback trigger guard. Up to number10,000 the V-shaped mainspring was standard and then replaced with a flat leaf mainspring and a wheel on the hammer at its bearing on the mainspring. Colt made about 2,550 Second Models in 1850 and '51. The Dragoon Revolvers had a comparatively shorter cylinder compared to the Walker thus preventing overloading the cylinder and a shorter barrel at 7.5 inches. A loading lever latch in front of the lever replaced the spring which kept the lever from dropping during recoil, thereby preventing jamming of the revolver. These changes also reduced the risks of the Colt Dragoon Revolver from exploding when fired, unlike the risk that had been demonstrated with the Walker revolvers. By the advent of the Civil War, Colt Dragoons had become extremely popular. Initially Colt Dragoon Revolvers were issued for the U.S. Army's Mounted Rifles. They were carried in pommel holsters on the saddle. The Colt Dragoon Revolver soon became popular among civilians in the Southwest where many hailed it as a powerful master weapon at that time. This replica comes in an attractive wooden case with powder flask and bullet mold. The case for the percussion caps is missing. The case is lined with red felt: as is typical of these sets, there is wear where the cylinder meets the felt. The revolver appears to have not been fired. There are no drag lines on the cylinder nor any rust on the pistol or in the bore. It has a lovely case hardened frame, the brass is in good condition, as are the grips. This is a revolver to be proud of. As a percussion black powder only revolver, it will be shipped to your home address; no ffl is needed unless required by your local laws. I accept postal money orders, other money orders, cashier's checks, or personal checks for payment. Shipping occurs when payment clears and is through the United States Postal Service's priority mail with insurance included.
