WW2 British No. 2 Mk. I Enfield Revolver (Irish Guards Marked)
Description: Serial #A5299, .38/200 British (.38 S&W), 5" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1931 dated, Enfield marked revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, barrel, and cylinder. The metal retains 90-92% of the original matte blue finish with mild silvering along the high and exposed edges, as well as on the raised edges of the cylinder. Some mild surface freckling is also present on the muzzle end of the barrel. Additionally, a faint, hand-scratched set of initials are just visibloe on the right side of the frame just below the cylinder: “MHM". The backstrap and butt are unit stamped “IG / 4" (Irish Guards / {4th Regiment of Foot Guards}). The checkered walnut grips are in good shape with numerous minor handling marks and blemishes, and moderate flattening of the points on either panel. The Irish Guards are one of the most respected and prestigious regiments in the British Army, one of the Foot Guard regiments for the reigning monarch, and have an illustrious service history. They are most well-known in the US for being the vanguard of XXX Corps’ advance towards Eindhoven, Nijmegen, and Arnhem during the ill-fated Operation Market Garden drive towards the Ruhr valley in September of 1944. This is a splendid prewar dated Enfield, with a fantastic unit marking, and would make a great addition to any collection.
