SCARCE FRANK WESSON 1870 MEDIUM FRAME POCKET RIFLE, .22RF, #2XX, MADE 1870-1893.
Description: FINE CONDITION SCARCE FRANK WESSON 1870 MEDIUM FRAME POCKET RIFLE, .22RF, 15” OCT. BARREL, #2XX, MADE 1870-1893. Only approx.. 5,000 of these were made in either .22 or .32 Rim Fire. The .22 version is the most desirable, and this example has the matching number stock. Most of these saw hard use by campers and trappers and this one is one of the better examples I’ve seen. The nickel plated receiver shows fine nickel with some peeling on the back strap and some on the left side of the frame with light scattered freckling. The barrel shows good blue with normal light edge wear and minor thinning near the receiver. Markings are excellent. Mounted with the original screw adjustable for elevation buckhorn rear sight that also has an aperture as well as the “V” to sight through to the globe front sight with pinhead. The action is tight and the bore is surprisingly fine+ with good rifling throughout and only some scattered light corrosion that might just brush out. The pushbutton spring-loaded safety that holds half-cock functions properly. Manual extractor intact. The matching number steel stock shows about half nickel and half worn to steel that blends well. Good rosewood grips. Overall, a very attractive and scarce pocket rifle from the last part of the 19th century.
