Description:
Great Western Sheriff Model Engraved 45 colt with a 3” Barrel. Manufactured Only in 1954 in Los Angeles, California. This gun has been restored blue and case colored and engraved. The engraved is done in the old Colt style engraving. With only 100 or so made, they are very desirable and rare. They are among the most sought after Great Westerns. Beyond that, note that a the Sheriff’s models were made in the first few months of the company’s revolver production in 1954 only. Note all Sheriff’s model used a Colt Hammer with a fire pin in them. (The Blue makes note of the Sheriff’s cylinder frames having a lower forward corner whose elliptical edge resembles Colt’s more than later Great Westerns and the Sheriff’s models are at various points described as likely assembled from surplus parts acquired from Colt, Blue Book: “John Dougan”. Serial number seen from approximately GW290 – GW375 in the Great Westerns serial range. There have been no Sheriffs models seen with serials any great distance outside this range. The Great Western Sheriff’s models are all 45 Colt with a 3” and 3 ½” barrel and with 3” barrel the rarest. Come with beautiful set of carve Ivory Texas Steer Head with ruby eyes.
