MEXICO CITY Shipped COLT Model 1877 “Thunderer”
Description: MEXICO CITY Shipped COLT Model 1877 “Thunderer” FACTORY LETTER; Revolver Made and Shipped in 1902 Here we present a factory lettered Colt M1877 “Thunderer” Revolver, manufactured circa 1902. The factory letter confirms that it was shipped in this configuration to A. Combaluzier in Mexico City in a 10 gun lot on August 18, 1902. Combaluzier was an arms agent in Mexico City during the early-20th Century and his advertisements can be found in the Mexican Mining Journal boasting that he was the only dealer in Colt Pistols and Mausers. He was then at 1a Plateros 5 Apartado 392 in Mexico City. The book Revolutionary Mexico mentioned Combaluzier when quoting a US report from 1914 to illustrate how US forces had locked down the Port of Veracruz, confiscating any incoming arms, during the President Wilson’s intervention there. Huerta had just ascended to power after the assassination and coup d'état of President Madero. The Model 1877 was offered in three different calibers, which led to the three unofficial names. The “Lightning” which was chambered in .38 Long Colt. The “Thunderer” which was chambered in .41 Colt. And, the “Rainmaker” which was chambered in .32 Colt. Neither "Lightning" nor "Thunderer" were Colt designations, and were not used by the factory in any reference materials. Both terms were coined by Benjamin Kittredge, one of Colt's major distributors. The 1877 "Thunderer" in .41 caliber was the preferred weapon of Billy the Kid and was his weapon of choice when he was killed by Pat Garrett in 1881. Doc Holliday was also known to carry a nickel plated colt thunder in his waistband as an accompanying gun to his nickel plated colt 1873. The overall condition is good. The steel surfaces have a dark gray patina to them. The markings are clear. The serial numbers match. The hard rubber grips are in very good shape. The bore is in good shape with clear rifling. The action is functional. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 4 1/2 inches. Caliber: .41 Colt Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
