SCARCE Smith & Wesson .38 “PERFECTED” Revolver
Description:
SCARCE Smith & Wesson .38 “PERFECTED” Revolver
Made Circa 1914, Fine Condition
Here we present a Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action “Perfected” Revolver, made circa 1914 in Springfield, Massachusetts. These were the most highly refined of Smith & Wesson’s Double Action line with an exposed hammer. Over half a million were produced of the first 5 variations from 1880-1911, while only 59,400 of the Perfected revolvers were produced from 1909-1920. These shared their predecessors’ top break, auto-ejecting feature. Its two primary differences included the mechanism by which one unlocked the barrel and cylinder assembly to “break open” the revolver for reloading, as well as the integral trigger bow. Regarding the opening mechanism, the former iterations simply required one to flip the “T” shaped latch at the top; however, the Perfected model required the sliding latch on the left side of the frame to be pushed forward to then move the “T” shaped latch.
The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. PAT’D AUG.496. DEC.22.96. OCT.8.01 FEB8.6 SEPT.14.09”.
The overall condition is very fine. The original blue finish is about 95%. The case colors are still vibrant on the hammer and trigger. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The hard rubber grips are in great shape. The bore is sharp and shiny. Here is an enviable example of Smith & Wesson’s scarce “Perfected” revolver!
