First Model Hand Ejector Made Circa 1899
Here we present a Smith & Wesson .32 Hand Ejector First Model Double Action Revolver, made circa 1899 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This revolver was S&W’s first revolver to feature the swingout cylinder and the plunger ejector. Only 19,712 were made in total. It featured a double action mechanism with the ability to shoot in single action. It also featured a swing out cylinder and plunger type star ejector. Some unique attributes accompanied the First Model, which were the cylinder stop in the top strap, as well as the rear sight being included in the front of the cylinder stop in the middle of the top strap. The rear sight is mounted there as the rear sight would move the most during the double action trigger pull if mounted at the rearmost portion.
The cylinder is marked “SMITH & WESSON/SPRINGFIELD, MASS/U.S.A. PATENTED/ JULY.1.84/ APRIL.9.89/ MARCH.27.94/ MAY.29.94/ MAY.21.95/ JULY.16.95”. The grips are mother of pearl.
