1840s-1850s British Antique TRANSITIONAL Double Action PERCUSSION Revolver
Circa 1840-50s Transition Pepperbox to Single Barrel
Description: 1840s-1850s British Antique TRANSITIONAL Double Action PERCUSSION Revolver
Circa 1840-50s Transition Pepperbox to Single Barrel
Here we present an antique Early British Double Action Percussion Transitional Revolver, made circa 1840s-50s in England. This revolver is representative of the short period between the pepperbox, an early type of percussion revolver on which the cylinder’s chambers were also barrels, and the single barrel revolver as we know it today. The barrel bears British proofs on the bottom of the barrel. This would have made a stately weapon for self defense in mid-19th Century Britain.
These guns used a barrel cluster truncated into a cylinder and a single rifled barrel affixed to the end of the axis pin. The resulting firearm was rather weak, but one which was accessible and inexpensive, and more accurate than the traditional smoothbore pepperbox revolvers.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. The grips are well used but sit firmly against the frame. British proofed cylinder.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 4 inches.
Caliber: .32 Percussion
