Belgian AUGUSTE FRANCOTTE 12-Shot GOLD INLAID 5.5mm Caliber Revolver C&R
Made Circa 1901 with PEARL GRIPS
Description: Belgian AUGUSTE FRANCOTTE 12-Shot GOLD INLAID 5.5mm Caliber Revolver C&R Made Circa 1901 with PEARL GRIPS Here we present a nice example of C&R Auguste Francotte 12-Shot Revolver made circa the turn of the century in Liege, Belgium. Founded in Liege in 1810, the Francotte company established itself there, but it wasn’t until 1860 that the company became especially active. The company was one of the principal manufactures of weapons coming out of Liege from 1860 until 1914, when its activities were blocked by German Occupation. By 1890, Auguste Francotte sported no less that 150 different revolvers. He also over the years produced licensed copies of Adams, Tranter, and Smith & Wesson revolvers. The Francotte company was also an important wholesaler, especially in the early 1880s, providing revolvers to wholesale houses in the United States, such as Sears & Roebuck and Montgomery Ward who would put their trade name on them. Only by disassembling the revolvers would one find the initials “AF” on the internal components. This top-break revolver features a large 12-shot cylinder chambered for 5.5mm Velodog centerfire ammunition. This was a cartridge developed for small revolvers to be carried by people on velocipedes (bicycles) to be used as self-protection against mean dogs. Various loads and projectiles were sold including pepper powder for less-than-lethal to tradition lead projectiles for something more lethal. This is very much like those smaller revolvers with its double/single action and folding trigger and grip profile, though with twelve shots instead of five or six, this one is much larger. The overall condition is good+. Mix of original finish and patina and some scouring evident. The action is excellent in double and single action with great index and lockup of the cylinder. The bore is in good shape with good rifling. The mother of pearl grips are solid and quite eye catching. A scarce and interesting piece! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 3 inches. Caliber: 5.5mm Velodog (centerfire) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2200 #228250 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
