WORLD WAR II BRINGBACK French ST. ETIENNE Revolver Hamelin Germany 1944 C&R 117th INFANTRY, 30th DIVISION Revolver
Description: WORLD WAR II BRINGBACK French ST. ETIENNE Revolver Hamelin Germany 1944 C&R 117th INFANTRY, 30th DIVISION Revolver Here we present a French Model 1892 Revolver, made in 1904 at the armory at St. Etienne. The Model 1892 was the standard issue sidearm for officers in the French military during the First World War. This one has been engraved by James J. Connell of the 117th Infantry Regiment, Part of the 30th Division—known as “Old Hickory” in honor of President Andrew Jackson. It also bears the place name of “Hamlen, Germany” which refers to the town of Hamelin where he picked up this souvenir as he and the 117th captured and cleared the town on April 7th, 1945. This was almost certainly a captured firearm from the Great War that was either a trophy for a German or perhaps still in use in Germany for a rear echelon soldier or prison guard. It also looks like Connell engraved his dog tag number and “U.S. Army” along with the date of 1944, which is probably significant of the year that he entered Europe during the war. The German nickname during World War II given to this division was "Roosevelt's SS". The 30th Infantry Division was regarded by a team of historians led by S.L.A. Marshall as the number one American infantry division in the European Theater of Operations, involved in 282 days of intense combat over a period from June 1944 through April 1945. It landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy, on June 11,1944, five days after the initial D-Day landings of June 6, 1944. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The grip is solid. Lanyard ring is absent. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 4-5/8 inches. Caliber: 8mm Lebel Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #217520 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
