Standard configuration H&R 940 revolver in .22 RF, 9-shot cylinder, made 1970, with 6” ventilated rib barrel having alloy ventilated rib with fixed front and windage adjustable rear sight. Usual SA/DA mechanism. Manufacturer markings as expected on barrel and frame. Fitted with checkered walnut grips, the left panel having a thumb rest. The most unusual feature is the key locking safety in the butt which the key screws in a safety that blocks the hammer and trigger, essentially the precedent to the S&W internal lock. Synopsis: Scarce H&R 940 revolver with unique key-safety locking system designed to prevent “accidents”, implemented years ahead of its time, later copied to varying degree by other manufacturers. Condition: Approximately 98% original alloy black and blued steel finish with a scattering of light freckles as carefully photographed. Hammer bright polished with minimal staining. Comparable condition grips with handling marks. Mirror bright bore. Perfect manual mechanics. An exceedingly interesting H&R revolver whose safety concept was years ahead of its time. ~~Insured shipping fee of $50; most packages shipped using FedEx 2nd Day.~~
