Description: Harrington & Richardson ".22 Special" Model 944 Fifth Variation Large Frame Top Break .22 long rifle caliber 9 shot revolver, double action, solid ribbed barrel, barrel length = 6 inches, blue finish, SN: 600534, serial number on cylinder matches serial number on the grip frame, one piece wrap-around checkered walnut factory grip, brass blade front sight, release-integral adjustable rear sight, automatic extractor, this variation includes the automatic cylinder stop and safety cylinder. Manufactured between 1939 and 1942. Not possible to determine the exact year this gun was made. Includes original box with matching end label and matching serial number printed on the bottom of the box. The box is in excellent condition. There were 11 different sportsman stocks available from the manufacturer for this gun. The fifth variation includes all guns with serial number 590000 and above. Fires .22 short; .22 long; and .22 long rifle rim fire ammunition. See photo of 1943 Harrington & Richardson catalogue page attached. Since model numbers are not stamped on the guns, this information may be helpful to buyers: Model 922 = large, medium weight frame; 9 shot; side loading Model 944 = large, heavy weight frame; 9 shot; top break; "22 Special" stamped on the left side of the barrel Model 945 = same as model 944 except: 7 shot for .22 W.R.F. ammunition (Winchester Rim Fire rifle bullets) Model 199 = single action; "Sportsman" stamped on the left side of the barrel Model 999 = double action; "Sportsman" stamped on the left side of the barrel Great pistol for target practice. Learn to use iron sights while using inexpensive ammunition. This gun was owned by my dad. It was the first gun I fired as a young boy in the 1950s. Qualifies as a Curio and Relic. Overall, the finish and grip are in excellent condition. Minor finish wear on the barrel at the muzzle and the front edge of the cylinder, most likely from a holster. Typical drag line on the cylinder. Several small handling dings on the bottom of the grip. Shipping to your FFL only. Inspection must be done on the premises of the receiving FFL only. Do not remove firearm from receiving FFL before inspection is completed and firearm is accepted. We provide a 3 day window to complete reasonable inspection. Inspection starts on date of delivery to receiving FFL. Do not disassemble. If you are unsatisfied, do not complete transfer. Promptly return item using original packaging.
