ENGRAVED Antique HOPKINS & ALLEN XL No. 3 N.Y. .32 RF SPUR TRIGGER Revolver WILD WEST Self Defense w/ANTIQUE IVORY GRIPS
Description: ENGRAVED Antique HOPKINS & ALLEN XL No. 3 N.Y. .32 RF SPUR TRIGGER Revolver WILD WEST Self Defense w/ANTIQUE IVORY GRIPS Here we present an antique Engraved Hopkins & Allen XL No. 3 N.Y. Spur Trigger Revolver chambered in .32 Caliber Rimfire, made in Norwich, Connecticut circa 1880. These little spur triggers were made in a wide variety of configurations in .22, .30, .32, .38, and .41 rimfire under the Hopkins & Allen name along with a wide variety of “Trade Names” with the most common of which include XL, Blue Jacket, Ranger, and Czar. Most of these model names would include a number usually indicating the frame size and caliber. For example, the XLs, No. 1, or No. 1-1/2 were .22 rimfire. The No. 2 was .30 rimfire. The No. 3, as is this one, was chambered in .32 rimfire. The No. 4 & 5 were in .38 rimfire, and the No. 6 was .41 rimfire. The ornate engravings on these revolvers bring a premium over the examples that aren’t engraved. This late 19th century revolver has outstanding floral and line engraving covering a high percentage of the metal surfaces. Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Company was a major manufacturer of rifles, shotguns, and inexpensive cartridge handguns between 1868 and 1915. After an initial investment of $2000, H & A began operations as a producer of firearms, machinery, tools, and hardware. After the expiration of the Rollin White Patent in 1869, they began converting their percussion revolvers to accept cartridge ammunition. In addition, they started producing a line of spur-trigger cartridge revolvers in .22 and .32 calibers. From its humble beginnings, Hopkins and Allen had grown from a small shop with 30 employees to become a major producer of firearms and an employer of 600 workers. In a state known for firearm production, H & A ranked third only behind Colt and Winchester. Hopkins & Allen continued to manufacture a variety of revolvers and small arms until 1915. The overall condition is fair. Original factory engraving and nickel finish. The action of the hammer and trigger are strong but the cylinder does not index. The cylinder arbor pin is a replacement and the pin’s latch lacks spring tension. The bore is dark with virtually smooth of rifling. The ivory grips show use and are quite yellow with age. A neat little revolver! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2-5/8 inches. Caliber: .32 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
