1920's Vintage Iver Johnson 3rd Model Safety Automatic Hammer Revolver in .32 S&W w/ RARE 6" Inch Barrel SOLD
Description: This is a very neat old Iver Johnson revolver called the 3rd Model Safety Automatic Hammer Revolver in .32 S&W Long / .32 S&W Short caliber that was most likely made sometime during the 1920's. This one is unique in that it has a 6" inch factory barrel rather than the standard 3" or 3.25" inch barrel that 99% of them have, and it has special-order oversized hard rubber grips. The Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works 3rd Model Safety Automatic Hammer Revolver was produced between 1909 and 1941, when the outbreak of WW2 put a stop to production. This double action model featured a top-break design with an automatic ejector, and as mentioned earlier typically featured a 3" or 3.25" inch barrel and 5, 6, or 7 shot cylinder. It was offered in .22 rimfire, .32 centerfire, or .38 centerfire chamberings. It came standard with hard rubber grips but could be ordered with oversize wood or hard rubber grips as well. This particular example appears to be all-matching except for the triggerguard which is numbered 87600, while the frame and barrel assembly is numbered 87864. As you can see from the pictures, the finish is a glossy blue that has turned a plumb color in some areas, but still has an attractive look to it overall. The bore in the rare 6" inch barrel is excellent and mirror-bright. The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves and there are zero visible imperfections. The cylinder chambers are equally as clean and bright. The original special order oversized hard rubber grips are in very good condition, with both sides free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/wear. The checkering, designs, and Iver Johnson owl head logos on both grips are clean and crisp. The action on this revolver is perfectly in-time and it functions flawlessly in double or single action operation. The auto ejector works perfectly and the trigger breaks nicely, particularly in single-action operation. The only negative we can find with the mechanics is there is a tiny bit of play between the upper and lower half of the revolver when it is in the ready to fire position. This should have no effect whatsoever on the accuracy or reliability of the revolver. If you have been looking for an affordable but cool vintage revolver to add to your collection this Iver Johnson would be a great choice.
