Merwin & Hulbert, Pocket Army Single Action Revolver, .44-40, 3 1/4” Barrel, ANTIQUE, Restored, Beautiful
Description: $$$ SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION TO FINAL PRICE.......This Antique Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army Single Action Revolver was made c. 1880 – 1883 in Norwich Connecticut by Hopkins and Allen. It was the most technically advanced revolver of it’s time. Cartridges were loaded through a sliding loading gate. Colt and others pivot, and M&H slid down, but no innovation there. Selective Ejection was the key, with the hammer on half cock, the bottom release button would allow the barrel / cylinder assembly to pivot and slide forward. It slid far enough to allow the empty brass to fall away but the added length of a bullet would retain the loaded cartridges. This enabled “topping off” a cylinder as desired. A second lever would permit the barrel / cylinder assembly to slide off the cylinder pin to clean the chambers and barrel. This Revolver has been professionally restored at great expense. It was in very good condition to start with, and then it was engraved with period style scroll engraving. New nickel plating, and fire blued screws and trigger further enhance it. Diamond checkered Ivory grips complete it. The bore has some roughness but has strong lands & grooves, clearly functional if need be. The action is fully functional and flawless, perhaps tuned during restoration. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, under the grip, on the barrel and on the cylinder. This is a beautiful investment grade firearm and a great addition to any Western or Antique gun collection. Serial number 9974. Cal. .44-40 with a 3 ¼” barrel. Antique Firearm.
