This 8mm Model 1892 revolver was made for the French Ministry of War for presentation as a shooting prize. The 4.5"" round with three top flats barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The gun retains approx 99% military blue and 95% straw colors on the hammer, trigger and loading gate. The top of the barrel is marked Mle 1892 and the right side is marked S. 1912. The right side of the rear frame is marked Mre d'Armes over St Etienne. The barrel and frame have assorted inspection marks. The specially made finely checkered wood grips are excellent. The left grip has a 1 5/8"" by .75"" oval medallion reading PRIX over OFFERT over a blank banner over PAR le MINISTRE de la FUERRE (prize given by the Ministry of War). The action functions correctly. This excellent Model 1892 prize revolver has the custom grips with silver medallion inlay, excellent high quality finish, and no serial number showing it was intended specifically as a special presentation gun. It is ready for the finest French or European military revolver collection.
