SN: 1175. This very rare and attractive Mauser Zig-Zag revolver is factory engraved and has a gold-washed cylinder, hammer, and trigger. The Model 1878 Zig-Zag revolver features Z pattern grooves in the cylinder that, in conjunction with a rod that moves forward when the hammer is cocked, causes the cylinder to rotate. The 3 5/8\" round with top rib 7.6mm barrel has an excellent bore. The revolver retains approx. 95% of its nickel finish with scattered loss at high points. The cylinder has gold remaining in the grooves and traces on the outer areas. It is a pleasing golden brown color. The factory engraving consists of floral areas and decorative line-dot pattern areas. The frame, trigger guard, and grip straps are engraved. The excellent hard rubber grips have a floral pattern with a fantasy creature at the bottom. The action functions properly. Engraved Zig-Zag revolvers are very rarely seen.
