CALIFORNIA Forehand & Wadsworth “ARMY” Revolver
Description:
CALIFORNIA Forehand & Wadsworth “ARMY” Revolver
California Bear Mark Thought to be Militia Mark
Here we present an antique Forehand & Wadsworth Old Model Single Action Army Revolver, manufactured circa the mid-1870s in Worcester, Massachusetts. Less than 1,000 of these revolvers were made. It is likely that this revolver was made as an attempt to gain a government contract but none were ever made. Some of these, like this one, were marked with a walking bear on the left side of the frame. This is almost certainly representative of the state of California. Some say it is a California militia marking while others believe it to have been done by a California retailer. The top of the barrel is marked “WORCESTER, MASS. PAT’D OCT. 22 ’81-JUNE 27’71-OCT.28’73+”. While almost all of these revolvers were finished in nickel, this one features the rare blue finish.
The overall condition is good. Traces of the original blue finish remain with an even patina with an old, flaking black paint finish. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut grips are in good shape. The bore is dark. The action on this revolver is strong. Here is a rare and obscure revolver from 1870s California!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 5-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .44 Russian
Overall condition as seen in photos.
