Published Webley No. 5 New Army Express Style Revolver Cape Colony
Description: Serial #95524, .476 CF, 5 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a great looking revolver that has retained 90-95% of an armory reapplied blue finish with even freckling along the barrel, and silvering on the high and exposed edges. The topstrap is retailer marked: "V&R BLAKEMORE / LONDON", with a further Webely & Scott "Winged Bullet" logo on the left side of the frame. The right side of the frame has "CP / 1 / 493" (Cape Police / 1st Division [King William's Town] / gun #493). South African property marks are present on the frame at the front and rear (two opposed "U (Broad Arrow)", and a further Lesotho Mounted Police property stamp is present on the underside of the barrel. The checkered walnut grips are in very good shape, with minor wear and handling marks throughout on both panels. The action lock-up is tight, and the mechanism is fully functional. This very revolver is pictured on page 244 of "Webley Solid Frame Revolvers - Models RIC, MP, and No. 5" by Black, Davis, and Michaud; (2010). This is a comprehensively marked South African police revolver, and is in fine overall condition.
