WWI British Contract CANADIAN ISSUE COLT NEW SERVICE .455 Archive Lettered
Infantry Unit Marked Great War Sidearm
Description: WWI British Contract CANADIAN ISSUE COLT NEW SERVICE .455 Archive Lettered Infantry Unit Marked Great War Sidearm Here we present a C&R Colt New Service Revolver, made circa 1915 for a British contract and were shipped from the factory in a lot of 600 to London Armoury Company. The back of the grip frame is inscribed with a unit that is still clearly visible, though it was struck at some point: “P.P.C.L.I.” for Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. As the accompanying document explains, this unit was the “last privately raised regiment in Canada.” It was “named after Princess Patricia of Connaught.” The unit was part of the Canadian Corps which was the 7th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Division which saw battle in France and Flanders. The PPCLI went on to Russia during the revolution in 1919 and was back in active service during WW2. This piece bears British War Department markings as well as the original cartridge marking of .455 Eley, though this piece has been converted to .45 Colt, and this is noted above the original chambering marking. There are some other, fainter markings on the back of the grip frame that have been obscured a bit more effectively. The overall condition is very good. Original finish. The action is excellent in both double and single action. The bore is shiny bright with nice rifling. The numbers match. The grips are in great shape for age and use. As noted, this piece has been converted to .45 Colt from .455 Eley. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 5 ½ inches. Caliber: .45 Colt (Long) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. ancestryguns $2400 #226792 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
