U.S. Model 1917 Revolver by S&W
Description: Serial #33171, .45 ACP/Auto Rim, 5 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a U.S. Ordnance Department marked, “GHS" inspected revolver that retains 80-85% of the original blue finish that has silvered along the high edges, and has a moderate turn-ring on the cylinder. Some gray fading is present on the muzzle-end of the barrel, and there are some spots of mild surface freckling as well. The hammer and trigger retain about 85-90% of their original bright color case-hardening with only some mild fading and silvering along the edges, and matching numbers are present on the frame, barrel, cylinder, yoke, and ejector. Some even freckling is present on the gripstraps, and the cylinder face has scattered spots of gray on and between the chamber mouths. The smooth walnut grips are numbered to the gun in pencil on the right panel, and are in very good condition with numerous small handling marks and blemishes. The left panel was sanded and is slightly narrower than the right, but the military oil finish added to it closely matches the right side panel. The lock-up is tight and the action functions flawlessly. Included with the revolver is a 2017 dated, S&W factory letter that gives a shipping date of March 2, 1918 the US Government c/o Springfield Armory, Springfield, MA. This is a fine example of a World War I Model 1917, and would make a great addition to any collection.
