This is a very nice example of a rare Smith & Wesson M&P Pre-Model 10 revolver that was issued to the US Marine Corp. The included Smith & Wesson factory letter (original copy) states that this particular gun was shipped to the Marine Corps Supply Annex in Barstow, CA on December 4, 1953. It comes from the collection of author Kevin Williams, best known for his work on the topic of General Officers Pistols & Clandestine Organization Pistols of WWII.The gun is all matching, has "P" military proofs, and has a "US Property" marking on the back strap. It has retained about 90% of its finish with general high edge wear. While there isn't a ton of actual finish loss, there are tiny surface scratches throughout. Case-hardened hammer and trigger. The inside of the right grip panel is marked "273/071". Mint bore.
