RUSSIAN Pre-WORLD WAR II Soviet NAGANT M1895 TULA Arsenal 7.62mm w/HOLSTER
Revolver w/SOVIET MINISTRY of DEFENSE “MO/51” Mark
Description: RUSSIAN Pre-WORLD WAR II Soviet NAGANT M1895 TULA Arsenal 7.62mm w/HOLSTER Revolver w/SOVIET MINISTRY of DEFENSE “MO/51” Mark Here we present a C&R Soviet Russian Nagant Model 1895 Revolver with Soviet Ministry of Defense Markings made at the Tula Arsenal in Russia, circa 1935. The Nagant was designed by Léon Nagant, whose brother Émile had also taken part in designing the Mosin–Nagant rifle. The Nagant M1895 was adopted as the standard issue sidearm for the Imperial Russian Army and police officers, where it replaced earlier Smith & Wesson models such as the Model 3. Production began in Liège, Belgium, though Russia purchased the manufacturing rights in 1898, and moved production to the Tula Arsenal, and was soon producing 20,000 examples per year. This was the primary sidearm of the Soviet Union during the Second World War. This one bears the Tula arsenal mark and a date of 1932. It is chambered for 7.62x38mmR and features the “gas seal” system. This involves the cylinder moving forward when the gun is cocked to create a seal between the barrel. This provided a boost to the velocity of the projectile by eliminating cylinder gap. As mentioned, Leon Nagant is to be credited with this unusual system. He was quite the inventor and gun maker. The overall condition is good. Arsenal refinished “star” on the left trigger guard. Excellent action. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. Markings are legible. Solid grips with nice checkering. “CAI GEORGIA” import marked right frame. The holster is in fine shape. “1935” dated along with “MO/51” mark attributed to the Soviet Ministry of Defense.
