Description:
RUSSIAN WW II Era NAGANT M1895 TULA Arsenal 7.62 DA Revolver HOLSTER & BOX
WORLD WAR II Handgun Made in 1938 w/MATCHING BOX
Here Ancestry Guns present a Soviet Russian Nagant Model 1895 Revolver made at the Tula Arsenal in Russia circa 1938 with a Matching Box and Holster. The Nagant was designed by Léon Nagant, whose brother Émile had also taken part in designing the Mosin–Nagant rifle. The Nagant M1895 was adopted as the standard issue sidearm for the Imperial Russian Army and police officers, where it replaced earlier Smith & Wesson models such as the Model 3. Production began in Liège, Belgium, though Russia purchased the manufacturing rights in 1898, and moved production to the Tula Arsenal, and was soon producing 20,000 examples per year. This was the primary sidearm of the Soviet Union during the Second World War. This one bears the Tula arsenal mark and a date of 1938.
It is chambered for 7.62x38mmR and features the “gas seal” system. This involves the cylinder moving forward when the gun is cocked to create a seal between the barrel. This provided a boost to the velocity of the projectile by eliminating cylinder gap. As mentioned, Léon Nagant is to be credited with this unusual system. He was quite the inventor and gun maker. The M1895 was made in both single and double action, though the double action design eventually became the default. The M1895 Nagant was reliable and was used by the Soviet Union military all the way up to about 1952, when it was replaced by the Makarov pistol.
This example has the frame dated “1938” and import marked. It includes an importer shipping box with matching had written serial number, a leather flap holster, a leather holster suspension strap, and a cleaning rod.
The overall condition is good. This example is arsenal refurbished. Excellent action. Shiny bore, sharply rifled. Both grips are fine. Markings are clear and legible. The right side of the frame is import marked. Visible pre-import numbers match. Fine holster. The original box is hand numbered to the gun and is in fine shape.
