Description: 2 Colt SAA Sheriff's Model. 44/40. 3 Inch. Engraved Nickel Finish. Rare Consecutive Pair. PRICE REDUCED!! AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT OUR ON-LINE STORE Excellent Condition. These Colt SAA Sheriff's Model 44/40's are both in excellent condition. Consecutive serial numbers make them a rare collectors item. Shipped together in 1983. "The Sheriff’s Model terminology came from latter-day collectors, who also sometimes used the term “Storekeeper’s Model.” By any name, the gun is simply a Single Action Army manufactured without the ejector rod or ejector rod housing on the barrel. This was done to create a simpler, easier-to-carry revolver useful in the Frontier era for short engagements that might not demand quick reloading. The Colt Single Action Army, also known as the Single Action Army, SAA, Model P, Peacemaker, M1873, and Colt .45 is a single-action revolver with a revolving cylinder holding six metallic cartridges. It was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1872 by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company — today's Colt's Manufacturing Company — and was adopted as the standard military service revolver until 1892."
