Fine & Large Auguste Francotte, Liege, Belgium Relief Engraved Lefaucheux Double Action Revolver with Ebony Grips, 11mm Pinfire, mfg. circa 1870. Pictures don't do this gun justice! It is a very impressive high quality pistol in fantastic original condition. Auguste Francotte was of course one of the premier Belgian makers of fine arms throughout the 19th century and large caliber Lefaucheux style revolvers such as this were immensely popular among both American and European military officers. The pistol measures 11" long overall and features a 6" octagon barrel with an integral raised rib and topstrap fitted with a dovetailed high-blade front sight and standing single leaf rear. The gun is profusely engraved in relief style floral patterns with Lefaucheux's patent "LF" stamped under the forward portion of the frame and Auguste Francotte's Crown over "AF" proof struck on the frame and cylinder along with additional Liege markings. The finish has mostly thinned to gray with some bright bluing remaining within protected areas of the frame ahead of the cylinder. The surfaces are smooth with sharp edges and engraving throughout. The original checkered ebony grips fit perfect and show only light wear with no cracks, chips, or marring. Original hammer, trigger, screws, lanyard ring, loading gate, and cartridge extractor rod with spring retainer. The loading gate swings open and snaps shut like a vault. The action is flawlessly crisp in both single and double action and functions perfectly. Excellent bore with clean sharp seven-groove rifling front to back and only a couple tiny oxidation spots that should remove with a quick cleaning. There is even still bright bluing within the grooves! Weight is on the somewhat hefty side at 2 lbs 7 oz. You just don't see this size, quality, and condition very often - easily the nicest pinfire revolver we have offered in some time! Fine & Large Auguste Francotte, Liege, Belgium Relief Engraved Lefaucheux Double Action Revolver with Ebony Grips, 11mm Pinfire, mfg. circa 1870. Pictures don't do this gun justice! It is a very impressive high quality pistol in fantastic original condition. Auguste Francotte was of course one of the premier Belgian makers of fine arms throughout the 19th century and large caliber Lefaucheux style revolvers such as this were immensely popular among both American and European military officers. The pistol measures 11" long overall and features a 6" octagon barrel with an integral raised rib and topstrap fitted with a dovetailed high-blade front sight and standing single leaf rear. The gun is profusely engraved in relief style floral patterns with Lefaucheux's patent "LF" stamped under the forward portion of the frame and Auguste Francotte's Crown over "AF" proof struck on the frame and cylinder along with additional Liege markings. The finish has mostly thinned to gray with some bright bluing remaining within protected areas of the frame ahead of the cylinder. The surfaces are smooth with sharp edges and engraving throughout. The original checkered ebony grips fit perfect and show only light wear with no cracks, chips, or marring. Original hammer, trigger, screws, lanyard ring, loading gate, and cartridge extractor rod with spring retainer. The loading gate swings open and snaps shut like a vault. The action is flawlessly crisp in both single and double action and functions perfectly. Excellent bore with clean sharp seven-groove rifling front to back and only a couple tiny oxidation spots that should remove with a quick cleaning. There is even still bright bluing within the grooves! Weight is on the somewhat hefty side at 2 lbs 7 oz. You just don't see this size, quality, and condition very often - easily the nicest pinfire revolver we have offered in some time!
