1863 Remington New Model Army .44 Percussion Civil War Military Revolver *EXCELLENT* Outstanding High Condition 100% Orig 1864
Description: *SALE PENDING* Exceptional High Condition Model 1863 Remington New Model Army Civil War Military Revolver, .44 Cal, mfg. July 1864. This is the finest Civil War issue Remington we have ever offered. A good friend who owned it for many years claimed it to be 'unfired' and I can't argue otherwise. The bore looks brand new and there is still fully intact bright bluing inside all of the chambers. Pictures really don't do it justice; it is absolutely stunning in person. The gun remains totally original as it left the factory retaining nearly 95% bright bluing with razor sharp edges and smooth surfaces throughout. Some of the finish has flaked around the cylinder, top & right sides of the barrel, and loading lever which I attribute to age and not from use. All of the finish remains along the front gripstrap and butt with factory polishing marks still visible. The screws are all perfect and there is bright fire bluing on the face of the trigger with mottled case color on the hammer. Original wood grips are excellent with no chips or cracks, crystal clear "GP" cartouche with inspector's marks on the butt, and all factory finish remaining. Interestingly the frame and triggerguard are numbered "86938" while the barrel is "87665" and cylinder "88478". This is not uncommon however and the gun is absolutely original as issued. When a military contract Remington was completed it was reviewed by in-house sub inspectors at the factory to catch any defects before the Federal Ordnance Department inspectors arrived for final acceptance. At this point if a part was deemed unsatisfactory for service rather than condemning the whole gun like Colt would do the pistol was sent back onto the production floor to have that part swapped with another which had passed inspection. Now the pistol having full sub-inspector passed components was resubmitted for Federal acceptance. This example is fully inspected top to bottom without any "C" (condemned) markings indicating that while it had a slight hiccup within the factory it did ultimately pass inspection and was issued for military service just as you see it. Original post front sight with clear Remington barrel address and inspector's markings stamped on the frame, barrel, cylinder, loading lever, triggerguard, and grips. Even the cylinder pin still has bright fire bluing with factory polishing marks. The action is flawless and functions like new. As previously stated the bore is perfect with bright and shiny rifling front to back and zero imperfections. The muzzle face is still finished bright with full bluing within all of the chambers. The nipples are all perfect originals. You really have to hold this one to appreciate how beautiful it is. An outstanding example of an issued Civil War Remington that would be very difficult to improve upon.
