Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Remington New Model No. 4 Spur Trigger .38 Rimfire Pocket Revolver, made during its production run between 1877 and 1888 in Ilion, New York. This revolver was designed for defensive carry. It held 5 shots of .38 Rimfire and would have been a high-quality offering to the civilian market that was filled with many cheaper and inferior alternatives known to collectors today as “Saturday Night Specials”.
There were quite literally dozens of companies making these at the end of the 19th century, curiously being “trade named” all sorts of things, for example: Defender, Blue Jacket, Red Jacket, Electric, Smoker and many more! They are typically rimfire and have a spur trigger, much like their progenitor, the S&W No. 1 Revolver. Though they do not have the name recognition of Colt’s, Smith & Wesson and Remington, they still represent a period in American history.
The overall condition is fine. Excellent action. Original nickel finish is preserved. The bore is lightly frosted, retains a nice shimmer and serviceable rifling. Some light pitting is found in the middle. Markings are legible. Both grips are fine.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 2-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .38 Rimfire
Overall condition as seen in photos.
