Antique Civil War Remington New Model Army Revolver 44 Cal Percussion
Description: Serial #90494, .44 Caliber black powder percussion, 8 inch octagon barrel with a bright mostly fine bright bore with a ring about 2 inches from the muzzle. This is a Civil War standard Government New Model Remington Army revolver marked "PATENTED SEPT.14,1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION,NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL" on the top barrel facet with appropriate inspector marks. This was the last 44 caliber revolver made by Remington heavily purchased by the Union in the Civil War. The barrel, frame and cylinder have toned to plum-brown with some protected areas of original blue showing scattered contusions and isolated areas of surface roughness. The inspector marks on the left grip are faintly visible but mostly worn smooth with a small chip obscuring some of the script and show a repaired crack along the rear side and with a small chip to the bottom right grip and some scattered light contusions. All numbered parts match. The action functions properly with a strong spring. A very good representative example of these well built Remington revolvers used in the Civil War and Indian Wars.
