One of Only 6,000 No. 3 Pocket Revolvers with Saw Handle Grip
Here we present an antique nickel plated Remington-Smoot New Model No. 3 Revolver in .38 Rimfire, made circa 1880 in Ilion, New York. The years of production were 1878 to 1888, with a total of about 25,000 made. This revolver was designed with the armed public in mind, being pocket-sized and holding 5 shots of .38 Rimfire. This revolver was part of a line of small handguns that was contemporaneous with Colt’s “New Line” revolver. Both these companies made a quality revolver, but quality costs. As a result, many small makers began producing much less expensive alternatives that would lovingly become known as “Suicide Specials”. In many cases, these little revolvers did the job, but competition shut down these lines earlier than they may have otherwise. This revolver was designed for defensive carry and would have been equally at home in a holster, pocket or purse. With 5 rounds of .38, one could get themselves out of most scrapes.
The overall condition is very fine. The original nickel finish is 98%. The nitre blue screws remain vibrant. The markings are clear. The trademarked grips are in great shape. The bore is bright and sharp. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic little Remington that could scarcely be improved upon!
