Antique U.S. REMINGTON M1867 NAVY Rolling Block .50 CF ANCHOR MARKED Pistol Scarce U.S. INSPECTED Navy Rolling Block Pistol
Description: Antique U.S. REMINGTON M1867 NAVY Rolling Block .50 CF ANCHOR MARKED Pistol Scarce U.S. INSPECTED Navy Rolling Block Pistol Here we present an antique Remington Rolling Block U.S. Model 1867 Navy Pistol made in Ilion, New York circa the late 1860s to the early 1870s. The Model 1867 pistol uses a .50 caliber Remington Pistol Center Fire cartridge and a thumb latch activated Rolling Block. These were an update to the previous Model 1865, which was made for rimfire cartridges. The action was quite robust and could easily withstand the increased pressure of the new smokeless powders coming into use by the late 1880s. Only about 6,000 of these were made for the U.S. Navy. These had a sturdy, simple action that was relatively inexpensive and was just the ticket for shipboard weapons for the U.S. Navy. These were, in fact, firearms that would not see a whole lot of use the vast majority of the time. An anchor is located on the top of the barrel along with “F.C.W.” on the right side of the frame for Ordnance Inspector Frank C. Warner. Although Remington continues to make rolling block long guns even to this day, these rolling block pistols were made only up to about 1872, since by 1873 both Colt and Remington were free to make cartridge revolvers and the single shot pistol was abandoned as a military weapon. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age, has darkened, and maintains serviceable rifling. Solid grip and forarm. A small portion of the grip is repaired just below the inner trigger guard tang. Legible markings. Anchor marked barrel. A hearty U.S. Naval pistol from the latter part of the 1860s! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7 inches. Caliber: .50 Centerfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
