BEALS NAVY MODEL REVOLVER
Description: Civil War Remington Beals Navy Model Revolver - Cal. .36 - 7 1/2" Bbl. - SN 2549 (1861) - matching on barrel, guard, and frame. Bore is near excellent - bright and shiny with crisp rifling and shows only a couple of spots of mild roughness. , Action is excellent, solid and crisp with perfect timing and lock-up. Metal is excellent overall with no exterior rust, pits, or corrosion - inner frame above cylinder shows modest corrosion. The barrel has about 70% thinning blue and shows some evidence of light polishing on the bottom and some touch-up - edges are crisp and lettering is sharp. The frame may have been lightly polished ot one time and "toned" to a medium gray patina - screws are excellent. The cylinder has about 80% blue and could be a period replacement - chambers are perfect and nipples are like new replacements. I think the hammer is also a replacement - looks like an original and shows lots of case color. The Walnut grips are in about excellent condition and show minor dings ans scuffs from normal use - retain about 75% + finish. The "Beals Patent" Remington Navy was manufactired 1861-1862 and about 14,500 were produced, most being purchased by the Military but not marked. It was found to be a reliable and rugged revolver during the war. This Remington Beals is in about VG or better condition with perfect, crisp mechanics and would be a super shooter and a fine representative sample of a scarce Remington for a Civil War collection and at a reasonable price.
