Guns International #: 103058005
Seller's Inventory #: O-85
Description:
Rare Remington Model 1875 SAA, Egyptian Contract Revolver, .44 Remington CF, #10511, blued, wooden grip panels, the left one clearly stamped with the inspector’s cartouche "J.W.R." (James W. Reilly Maj.). The top of the barrel has the address: "E. Remington & Sons, Ilion N.Y. U.S.A.". As is typical of all existing Egyptian contract versions, it is stamped on the left side of the barrel with a star and a sub-inspector’s mark “R” and next to it, on the frame, is stamped with a further “R” sub-inspector’s mark. Unfortunately for Remington, the big Egyptian order did not pan out and few (if any) of these guns were actually delivered to the Egyptians. The problems arose over Egypt’s failure to pay large balances due on earlier Remington Rolling Block military rifle orders. The end result was that the production of the Egyptian contract guns ended prematurely, and the few revolvers that existed were apparently sold on the open market to allow Remington to recoup some of their monetary losses. Accordingly, Remington Mod.1875 Egyptian contract-marked revolvers are now very scarce, with few in circulation in the U.S., and even fewer in Europe.
Synopsis:
Scarce Remington 1875 Single Action Army, Egyptian Contract.
Condition:
G/VG with toning and wear as carefully photographed. Comparable condition grips. Mechanically excellent with cylinders indexing properly.
