A True .36 Caliber Unconverted Survivor!
Description: Antique REMINGTON Arms Co. NEW MODEL .36 Caliber Percussion NAVY Revolver
A True .36 Caliber Unconverted Survivor!
Here we present an antique Remington New Model Navy Revolver, made circa 1869 in Ilion, New York. Remington manufactured approximately 28,000 of the .36 caliber New Model Navy revolvers between 1863 and 1875. About 4,300 of these revolvers were purchased by the U.S. Navy with the rest being sold commercially—many would have been privately purchased by soldiers on their way to war.
The top of the octagon barrel is roll-stamped “PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILLION, NEW YORK, U.S.A./NEW-MODEL” in three lines.
The overall condition is very good. Original blue & silver finish. Strong action. Bright bore with sharp rifling Both grips are in very good shape and “OA SWEENEY/GUNSMITH/2612 OLIVE/ST. LOUIS” is stamped on the inside of each (Sweeney was a gunsmith in the early to mid-20th century, so this was probably in his inventory or collection at some point). The Remington Navy revolver was as solid as a revolver came in those days and it is an ideal size for the average hand.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 7-3/8 inches.
Caliber: .36 Percussion
