Antique REMINGTON “Improved” NEW MODEL .38 Caliber NAVY Conversion Revolver Factory Manufactured / Converted in .38 Caliber
Description: Antique REMINGTON “Improved” NEW MODEL .38 Caliber NAVY Conversion Revolver
Factory Manufactured / Converted in .38 Caliber
Here we present an antique Remington “Improved” New Model Navy Cartridge Conversion Revolver, manufactured circa 1863 to 1875 and converted circa 1873-88 in Ilion, New York. Remington manufactured approximately 22,000 of the .36 caliber percussion New Model Navy revolvers between 1863 and 1875. Shortly after, many of these were “improved” being converted from percussion to .38 caliber rimfire along with new models being manufactured.
This solid frame revolver came with a blued finish on the barrel, frame and cylinder. The trigger guard is brass and the trigger is niter blue. The two-piece walnut grips are oil finished. It is possible that this one, along with many others, were manufactured / converted to a .38 caliber metallic cartridge before ever leaving the factory, as the Rollin-White was expiring.
The overall condition is very good. There is still lots of blue finish on this revolver as it looks as though it was refinished during the period. Nice case colors on the hammer. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright, truly fine for the age and black powder use, with strong rifling. The grips show wear and remain solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 7-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .38 Centerfire
Overall condition as seen in photos.
