Antique REMINGTON-RIDER New Model DOUBLE ACTION Percussion BELT Revolver
1 of only 3,000 to 5,000 CIVIL WAR Era Revolvers
Description: Antique REMINGTON-RIDER New Model DOUBLE ACTION Percussion BELT Revolver 1 of only 3,000 to 5,000 CIVIL WAR Era Revolvers Here we present an antique Remington-Rider Double Action New Model Belt Revolver, made from 1863-1873. This revolver was introduced in 1863 and would remain in production for ten years with a total production of between 3,000 and 5,000 revolvers. As the guns were serial numbered in the same range with the Remington New Model Single Action Revolvers, there is no way to know for sure how many were produced, and a lack of surviving factory records make investigation into the matter difficult. The New Model Belt series of revolvers was an effort by Remington to produce a handy, personal defense type revolver that would be at home in a belt holster or even a large over coat pocket, with the power of a full-sized military handgun but in a smaller and more compact package. As mentioned, only 3,000 to 5,000 are thought to have been manufactured in total between 1863 and 1873, with somewhere around 300 manufactured with a fluted cylinder. The earliest revolvers were produced with fluted cylinders with the balance manufactured with conventional round cylinders, as is this example. The fluted cylinder guns were produced circa 1863-1865 and appear in the serial number range under 1,000. The New Model Belt began production as a percussion pistol but was later adapted to metallic cartridges. The factory conversion of a percussion pistol to cartridge involved machining out part of the frame, as well as machining the cylinder and fitting it with a special cap. Not many have survived today in the original percussion configuration, as is this example. These would have been handy sidearms during the war as well as on the frontier. These were right on the cutting edge with that double action. The overall condition is very good. Some original barrel finish is preserved, with a nice smooth brown patina throughout. The action fully functions, but the cylinder indexes intermittently. (If the muzzle is pointed toward the ground, the action is strong, signifying a worn cylinder hand.) Shiny, bright rifled bore. Good grips. “E.T.” is hand inscribed on the left grip. Legible markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6-1/2 inches. Caliber: .36 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1900 #244023 SOLD Antique: Yes |
