Colt 1861 Navy and Remington 1861 Fluted Cylinder
Description: We are excited to present a Confederate. Civil War grouping of major importance All listed items were acquired personally and directly from Marianne Andrews the Great Grand Daughter of Benjamin Ashley Bell. His enlistment began 8th May 1861. Documentation of his service in Company A “Stafford Rangers” of Stafford County, the 9th Virginia Cavalry, Beale’s Brigade W.H.F. Lee’s division, cavalry, Army of Northern Virginia C.S.A and his entire active duty assignments are provided in extensive details including the battles he was engaged in and wounded. Here is a list of the items we have to offer from his estate. This is a rare opportunity to invest in CSA memorabilia that is profusely documented. 1) British 1862, 3 band imported Enfield Tower Musket in .577 caliber. Complete with ramrod and sling swivels. Totally functional to this day! Private Bell carried this musket throughout most of his service during the Civil War. Carved on the left side of the stock are the initials P B which stand for Private Bell. The side plate bears the English Crown and the markings 1862 Tower. 2) Captured Colt Service Revolver Model 1861 Navy with U.S.N. marked on the base of the brass grip frame. The serial number 2014 establishes it as a first year of production 1861. It is one of approximately 1100 surviving pieces of this model. It is believed Private Bell acquired this from one of the Yankee landing parties during the Battle of Aquia Creek in Stafford County. This piece is functional, with the exception of the cylinder not rotating. It is not frozen up, it just needs an internal adjustment / replacement of the indexing finger. All of the serial numbers are matching and the top of the barrel has the 1-line Address Col Sam’l Colt New York. Left side of frame has a tiny “COLTS PATENT”, and left shoulder trigger guard is marked “36 CAL”. 3) Scarce Fluted Remington-Rider Double Action Belt Revolver. Fluted cylinder Remington pistols were produced 1863-1865 in extremely limited quantities. We believe this to be a prototype since it is void of any serial numbers, inspector’s markings etc. or identification other than the Remington markings on top of the barrel: MANFACTURED BY REMIGNTON’s ILION, N.Y. / RIDERS PT. AUG 17, 1856 MAY 3, 1859. This piece is totally functional, and another one of those oddball revolvers that most Civil War handgun collections are missing that is not found available for sale very often. With only a few hundred having ever been made in this early configuration and even less surviving in original condition, it may be some time before you see another one of these for sale. 4) Period Civil War era black and white 2 ½” x 4” photo of Benjamin Ashley Bell in full dress uniform. Excellent studio portrait in beautiful original condition. This CSA collection is corroborated by 84 pages of documentation ranging from Ancestry, Wikipedia, Pension Bureau, and the Virginia Regimental Historical Society as well as the family knowledge. As a member of the US Confederacy Stafford Rangers he was engaged in 7 day battles. He died March 15th 1905. Price is for the entire collection including the documentation and we are not interested in breaking it up into individual offerings. Our goal is to at least keep it together while it is in our possession. If you have any questions feel free to text or call me 931-303-6739. All items are antiques, and FFL or C&R licenses will not be required. We accept all major credit cards (3% processing fee) or personal checks, money orders, etc. Credit card transactions will ship the same day the card is processed. SOLD Antique: Yes |
