RARE, FLUTED Remington-Rider DA New Model Revolver
Description:
RARE, FLUTED Remington-Rider DA New Model Revolver
Navy Caliber with LOW Serial Number!
Here we present an antique Remington-Rider Double Action New Model Belt Revolver, made from 1863-1865. Only 3-5,000 are thought to have been made. This was an early double action revolver made during the American Civil War. This one being quite early with a serial number in the low 100s. The distinctive fluted cylinder also pegs this for one of the earliest and this feature makes an already scarce gun quite rare. This is in the “Navy caliber” of .36.
The New Model Belt began production as a percussion pistol but was quickly adapted to metallic cartridges. The factory conversion of a percussion pistol to cartridge involved machining out part of the frame, as well as machining the cylinder and fitting it with a special cap. Not many have survived today in the original percussion configuration. These would have been handy sidearms during the war as well as on the frontier. These were right on the cutting edge with that double action.
The overall condition is good. Traces of the original blue are visible with mostly a dark gray patina. The markings are legible. The walnut grips are in good shape with some honest wear and even a notch on the left panel. The bore is in good condition. The action on this revolver is strong.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 6-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .36
Overall condition as seen in photos.
