REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER- CIVIL WAR
Description: This percussion handgun is a Civil War era Remington New Model 1858 Army revolver in excellent condition. Remington arms manufactured these sidearms for the military from 1863 to 1875. The New Model Army became the strongest competitor against the Colt Model 1860 revolver during that time. The Union government acquired a total of some 122,000 such New Model revolvers for military use. This excellent, government-inspected sidearm is an original .44 caliber handgun equipped with a 6-shot round, unrebated cylinder matched to an 8” long octagonal barrel. Screw-on barrel shows its threads visible at the breech end of the frame. Grips are original, two-piece walnut in good condition with a government inspector cartouche on the left side grip. The five-digit serial number #47758 is stamped into the bottom facet of the barrel and on the grip frame, trigger guard and grips. This revolver retains approx. 50% of its original factory bluing on the frame, cylinder, loading lever and barrel. Hammer is case hardened. Has an excellent bright bore. Sidearm features a brass trigger guard, steel backstrap, and the low hammer spur with numerous sub-inspector marks on the weapon. All original nipples. Barrel marking is good and reads, “PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL.” Action is strong and holds at half and full cock and locks up tight. This Remington New Model Army revolver is a nice representative sidearm of the Civil War. This revolver retains some of its original factory bluing on the frame, cylinder, loading lever and barrel. Right side of barrel near muzzle has several small spots of surface rust with one or two more on the cylinder. Bore has some light surface dirt but is otherwise very nice. / NEW MODEL.” Mechanics are very good. Holds at half and full cock and locks up tight. This Remington New Model Army revolver is a nice representative sidearm of the Civil War. Buyer Pays $20.00 shipping to the lower 48 states. I accept USPS Money Orders or Bank Cashier's Check.
