For your consideration is a Remington Model 95 O/U derringer, manufactured in Ilion, NY in 1899. It features 3” superposed barrels, manual extractor, and .41 rimfire chambering. The batch serial number is 241 and matches on underside of barrel and under left grip. This diminutive pistol was designed to resolve “issues” at short range.
There are many variations of the Remington Elliot derringer and this happens to be one of the less common types. This is the 3rd address variation also known as the "Slant Line Gap" – the rollmark lettering is slanted and there is a gap between the “C” and “O” in “CO.”. The Blue Book estimates production at around 2200 guns.
The original factory nickel plating is bright and clean, perhaps rating 90% to 95%. The only finish loss is a small patch of corrosion on the bottom right side of frame below the barrel lock lever. There is no edge wear.
The original hard rubber grips are in very fine condition with well-defined checkering. There is a scratch on the left grip but no chips or cracks.
It is in mechanically excellent condition with a solid, tight hinge. The spur-style trigger breaks cleanly, and the barrel lever snaps into place securely when locking the barrels closed. The hammer still has both the safety position and full-cock notches intact, and the mainspring feels very strong. The bores are good with well-defined rifling and scattered pitting.
