Ruger ~ Blackhawk ~ .44 Remington Magnum
Description: The Ruger Blackhawk revolver was a descendant of the Ruger Single-Six revolver, which was developed in 1953 after Colt discontinued the Single Action Army, leaving behind a gap in Western cowboy-style revolvers. The Blackhawk arrived in 1955 originally in .357 Magnum and soon chambered in .44 Remington Magnum as it arrived on the market, directly competing with the Smith & Wesson Model 29. In 1973, the New Model Blackhawk was introduced with a transfer bar safety mechanism and 1974 brought about the New Model Super Blackhawk. The Super Blackhawk was further beefed-up to take extremely high-pressure loads, even capable of handling loads that would typically be unsafe in lever-action rifles and double-action revolvers. This is thanks to replacing aluminum components with stainless steel and a non-fluted cylinder. For sale is an original 1958 Ruger Blackhawk chambered in .44 Remington Magnum. Built off of the original .357 Magnum frames, the .44 original Blackhawk is lighter in weight than the New Models and even features a 6-round fluted cylinder. This revolver appears to have all-original finishing, with bluing on the barrel and frame and black lacquer on the grip section. The pistol wears a set of original walnut grip panes with silver Ruger medallions. The sights are made up of an adjustable rear sight with serrated front ramp sight. Due to the age of this gun, it also lacks a transfer bar safety mechanism. The lettering and logo have been color-filled red by a previous owner and the front ramp sight has the same red paint on it for higher visibility. The finish overall on the gun is in fair condition, with no pitting or scratches—but, there is a significant amount of wear and discoloration throughout, with flash marks on the cylinder, reddish discoloration on the loading gate and lug, and speckling on the barrel, loading gate, and some edges throughout the gun. Also to be noted is that the crossbar to release the cylinder's pin does come loose and can be finicky to operate. The barrel does have some surface rust on the inside right along the rifling edges, which are sharp and prevalent. This gun is a great piece to pick up for Ruger and revolver collectors at a reasonable price for its age. Though not in picturesque condition, the gun could be a great shooter or an excellent candidate for a period-correct refinishing job. .44 Magnum Chambers: .44 Remington Magnum Metal Condition: Fair Wood Condition: Fair Bore Condition: Good Barrels: 6 1/2 Triggers: Single-action only Butt Pad: Walnut grips with silver Ruger medallions Weight: 2 lbs 7 oz Sights: Adjustable rear sight with serrated front ramp sight (painted red) Item Location: Kearney, NE Price: $799.99 Contact Seller |
