1989 Vintage Ruger Model GP100 .357 Magnum Revolver w/ Original Boxes, Manual, Etc.
** Handsome Ruger w/ Discontinued 6" Standard Barrel ** SO
Description: This is a very handsome and all-original 1989-production Ruger Model GP100 .357 Magnum revolver complete with everything it shipped from the factory with. Like many of the guns from this collection it was bought new by the original owner in 1989, MAYBE had a couple of cylinders fired thru it, and was then put into storage until now. It might even be unfired since leaving the factory, but there is no way to know for sure. Unfortunately it was stored in a crowded safe and acquired some minor handling/storage marks in the factory gloss-blue finish, but still remains in excellent condition overall inside and out. The Ruger GP100 was introduced in 1986 as the firm's top-of-the-line regular-production .357 Magnum revovler. The DA/SA GP100 revolver featured all-steel construction, a gloss-blue factory finish, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, a 4", 4.2", or 6" inch standard or heavy full-shrouded barrel, a triple-locking cylinder, fixed sights or adjustable "Target" style iron sights with an interchangeable front sight blade, a transfer-bar safety, and black rubber grips with polished Goncalo Alves inserts or a Hogue Monogrip. The Ruger GP100 quickly proved to be an exceptional revolver, extremely strong, well-made, reliable, and acccurate. The Ruger GP100 remains in production even today 35 years later, and there have been many variations made over the years. This particular example is serial number 171-81068, manufactured in 1989 which was the 3rd year of production. It is a gloss blue gun with the scarce 6" inch standard barrel that was discontinued very early in production. This Ruger is in perfect mechanical condition and excellent condition overall. The factory blue finish rates 96% plus, with the only deductions coming from some minor handling/storage marks rather than actual finish wear from use. Most of these little marks are on either side of the barrel and only visible under close inspection. There is also an extremely faint drag-line around the cylinder and a few tiny little marks, none of which detract from the clean overall look of this revolver. The stainless steel trigger and hammer are bright and near-spotless, with only a few tiny scuff marks mainly on the left side from metal to metal contact with the frame. The bore in this revolver is in mint condition, mirror-bright with perfect, sharp rifling and no visible imperfections. The six chambers of the cylinder are equally as clean and damage-free as the barrel. The original factory grips on this Ruger are in excellent condition, free from any visible wear, cracks, chips, repairs, or damage. The black rubber surround is soft and smooth, and the Goncalo Alves inserts are beautiful and give the gun some class. The action on this Ruger is smooth, slick, and perfectly "in time" whether it is worked in double or single-action, fast or slow. The cylinder lock-up is absolutely perfect with ZERO felt play in it at full-lock. All of the controls on this revolver are in perfect working order, including the rear sight windage and elevation adjustments. This GP100 has not even begun to be "broken-in" yet and still has 99.9% of it's service life left in it. There is no doubt that it will function just as well today as the day it left Ruger's factory 32 years ago. As mentioned before, this Ruger GP100 comes with everything it left the factory with, including the outer shipping box, the inner factory box, the owner's manual, the warranty card, the strip of anti-rust paper, the factory cylinder "flag" (yellow disc that shows an empty cylinder), and the factory clear plastic shipping bag printed with red Ruger logos. All of these extras are in excellent condition, just like the gun itself. If you have been looking for an investment-quality vintage Ruger GP100 for your collection that you can still shoot, this 1989-production gun with the somewhat scarce 6" inch standard barrel would be an excellent choice.
